Citizen’s Academy will be held in a session of 8 Mondays
September 11th through October 30th from 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm.

Mondays 6:00 PM – 8:30 PM
- September 11th:
- Chief Daly – State of the Police Department & Crime in Avon
- Crime Scene Investigation (CSI), participants will have hands on experience investigating a crime scene
- September 18th:
- Drug Recognition and DUI enforcement, participants will learn how to evaluate the sobriety of an individual and perform tests on an intoxicated person
- September 25th:
- S.W.A.T. – Participants will learn about the Eagle County Special Operations Unit.
- Self-Defense – Participants will be taught basic self-defense techniques
- October 2nd:
- Firearms Training Simulator (FATS), participants will be given computer simulation of shoot or don’t shoot situations and be required to react as a police officer in compliance with the use of force policy
- October 9th:
- Courtroom presentation, Eagle County Sheriff’s Office Victim’s Advocates, & Eagle County Detentions Facility Tour
- October 16th:
- Defensive driving training. Participants will have the opportunity to drive a marked patrol vehicle equipped with lights and sirens through a driving course set up by the driving instructor.
- October 23rd:
- Vail Public Safety Communications Center (VPSCC) presentation.
- October 30th:
- An evening with firearms instructors at the firing range.
